We are looking for people like you to adopt our rescued dogs!

How To Adopt

Adopting a dog is an incredibly rewarding act of kindness but is a lifelong commitment. As you will be welcoming a new member into your family it is important for you and your new dog to find the right match. It is straightforward to adopt with Saving Strays; you complete an application form and we arrange a home check if we have a suitable dog for you. During the restrictions of Covid-19 we conducted virtual home checks by recorded video call. Now we will where possible conduct in person home checks using our own in house Home Check Team. They will visit your garden and home but will always practice social distancing and wear a mask as appropriate if requested. The home checker will ask you a series of questions about your home which will include questions on your working hours, how often you will exercise your dog and they will ensure that your garden is fully fenced and secure. You will be asked to provide photo ID and proof of address. If you rent we ask for confirmation from your landlord that having a companion animal is allowed. If the home check is approved then we proceed to finalise the adoption. If for medical reasons you would prefer a virtual Home Check please request that on application.

Adoption Costs

The total adoption fee is £400 (UK) or €465 (Europe), (USA & Canada TBC) including the costs of the required care package before travel. The care package includes heart worm, a 4D Tick panel test and test for brucellosis as standard. All dogs over 1 year old will have been neutered, micro-chipped and vaccinated. They receive preventative flea, tick and ingested treatment in our care. We do suggest a settling in period and details of how the costs are paid in this instance are available on application to adopt.

Under legislative guidelines and the vaccination programme that we undertake with all our dogs, puppies cannot travel until they are at least 5 months old. We have a strict policy on the neutering of our puppies once in their new homes and we follow up on that requesting confirmation from your vet. We can arrange adoptions to various parts of the world including the UK, certain European countries and the USA & Canada (subject to flight volunteers).

Some of our dogs are available to meet in person in the UK and others will have a travel date confirmed on application.

Email us for more information on any particular dog, or call us for an informal chat.

Why We Need Adopters

When you adopt you save two lives. You save the life of the dog you are welcoming into your home and you also save the life of the dog we can then rescue in his or her place. We have over 60 street dogs and puppies in our care and we receive requests for help on the ground daily as there are always dogs in desperate situations needing our help. Fosterers also play a vital role in helping us rehabilitate our more nervous dogs and help home ready dogs learn about family life.

Many of the dogs in our care have been waiting many months to be adopted due to the backlog created by Covid. All of our dogs meet Honey the kennel cat before going to their new homes. We have dogs all colours and shapes and sizes and ages and all of our dogs really do deserve the love of a good family and a home to call their own. Could that be you?

You can see some of our wonderful dogs waiting for their chance of a new life by visiting our Dogs for Adoption and Dogs needing Foster pages.
